FILE - In this Dec. 29, 2010 file photo, Spc. Christopher Wilson, left, from Kansas city Kan. ,Sgt. David White, center, from Winchester Tenn. along with Spc. Andrew Ellerbrock from St. Michael, Minn., of 2nd Platoon Bravo Company 2-327 Infantry, take their positions during a sudden attack by Taliban on Badel Combat Out Post in eastern Afghanistan near the Pakistan border. Just months after pulling out of a remote slice of eastern Afghanistan dubbed the 'valley of death,' U.S. troops are back reinforcing their once-abandoned bases in the area - a hotbed of the insurgency and a dangerous second front in the decade-old war. The Pech and neighboring areas in Kunar province along the Pakistani border have been the scene of some of the fiercest fighting in the war. American forces pushed into Pech Valley and neighboring Korengal Valley about five years ago. But after years of battle, U.S. military leaders shuttered the outposts. (AP Photo/Rafiq Maqbool, File)
