Sweeney Todd triumphs at Whatsonstage awards

If your knives are his only friends, barber of Fleet Street's most famous should think again after the Chichester Festival Theatre production was won all the prizes for the price last night Whatsonstage choice theatergoers'.

After a period of six months in the West End, Stephen Sondheim musical from 1979 won five awards, including best musical revival. Stars Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton won the gongs for major musicals, while director Jonathan Kent and lighting designer Mark Henderson also won the most votes in their respective categories.

There was also an additional award for the Olympic Games opening ceremony director Danny Boyle, who follows in the footsteps of Daniel Radcliffe torso, winning theatrical event of the year.
